Everyone is welcome to our garden nursery shop, Allwoods are a family nursery and we like to keep things a little more traditional and rustic than the large garden centres. Please do not expect a ‘plant supermarket’ – it’s just not our style. However, you can expect to find some real gems at affordable prices and as we’ve been going for over a hundred years – you can rest assured that our plants and flowers are top quality and grown with care.
Where to find us:
We have finally completed Allwoods move and settled into the new nursery at Cheam. On site we have the Nursery shop (Cheam Plant Centre) and The flower shed which is becoming a popular place to come and collect your quality fresh flowers.
The Nursery and The Flower Shed are situated on Cuddington Way, this is a small residential lane that is a link road between Sandy Lane and Banstead Road. There are white gates at both entrances and speed humps, the lane is signposted as Privately Maintained which makes it look as if you can't use it, however you are allowed to travel along it. We are most easily reached by car. If reaching us from Banstead road we are on the left hand side. If approaching from Cheam village go under the railway bridge by The Railway pub and you are in Sandy Lane follow the road for about a mile (continuing straight ahead at the mini roundabout) turn right into Cuddington Way, once past the houses and the golf club we are just down on the right hand side. Look for our customery pink signs. If you type our postcode SM2 7JB into you Sat Nav it will bring you straight to our door.
Opening Times:
Our nursery shop (Cheam Plant Centre) is open during the Spring 1st March to 30th June
Monday to Saturdays 9.00am - 5pm, Sundays & Bank Holidays 10 till 4pm.
We are also allowed to open for Easter Sunday 10 till 4pm.
The Flower Shed is open Monday to Friday 9.00am - 4.30pm for the collection or ordering of flowers only. The flower Shed is open all year round except when the office is closed for Christmas 21 December 2012 - 2 January 2013, and bank holidays.
It’s well worth a visit and there is plenty of parking, coach parties are also welcome.
If you are travelling from afar or making a special journey to collect plants detailed on our website or via our mail order catalogues please ring (Mon to fri 9-4.30pm) BEFORE visiting us, as our mail order plants are kept in a different area to the garden nursery and we don't always have enough time or staff to enable us to quickly pick them out if you just turn up out of the blue.
Allwoods was founded by three brothers back in 1910. Montagu, George and Edward. It was their work that revolutionised plant breeding when Montagu crossed Perpetual Flowering Carnations with old fashioned Dianthus Corraphilius to produce a repeat flowering pink. Allwoods was a leading force in the production of Carnations as cut flowers which was where the flowers by post service we still run today originated. Montagu was also the first to produce plants for retaillers to sell with his range sold by woolworths in the days before garden centres. Allwoods has a rich heritage and as a family run firm our traditional values of quality grown produce are still as relevent today as they were then. Need advice? with owners and growers David and Emma on site in the Nursery you will be sure to get practical, relevant help and guidance if you require. Both their backgrounds are firmly in Horticulture and both will be adding their own family collection plants to the Nurseries diverse plant range. You are guaranteed plants you won't find in your run of the mill Garden centre.
In the Spring when the plant centre is open we will be stocking many specimen plants in individual pots, including a large range of Fushias and Geraniums. We will have trays of bedding plants as well our fantastic range of Hanging baskets and pot arrangements. And for the first time this Spring 'Mrs Sinkins' and 'Doris' will be making their debut as Allwoods most famous Dianthus along with many other popular Pink and Carnation plants from the Nursery.
FLOWERS -Looking for a local floral gift why not pop into The Flower Shed where we supply our fresh cut carnations, we can make them up into a bouquet for you to take including cell wrap, message card, flower food and care instructions. They can be purchased by the stem particularly useful for long lasting flower arrangements, or to pop into a vase when you get home. We are more than happy for you to pop into the shop to arrange sending flowers as gifts throughout the uk.
