Malmaison Carnations
Looking for an old traditional scented carnation then you need to grow these! Some date back to the 1800s and were bred from the now obscure tree carnation, they were very popular in their heyday and were often referred to as the Aristocrat of the carnation world as they were the plant to grow in the big country estates as the cut flowers would be used to adorn floral arrangements due to their large flowers and heady scent. Sadly most have now been lost to cultivation and there are only 6 Malmaison varieties left in the world!! You can only find these in specialist nurseries like ours, and we are dedicated to keeping these old varieties alive. The scent from a Malmaison is truly amazing and the blooms are divine - similar to a peony!! Treat them as you would a perpetual carnation but keep them dryer in the winter months to let them have a rest, they will then flower better the following summer. They are suited to growing in either in a greenhouse or conservatory, but can be positioned outside during the summer. All our plants are supplied with full growing instructions.
Please note: All our plants (unless stated otherwise) are supplied as ready to pot jumbo plugs. All pictures are to give you guidance as to how the plant may look / flower and depending on how you are viewing our products and your screen settings some colour variations may occur to that seen in real life. We grow everything in peat free compost. Please visit our "How your plants arrive" section on our website for more information.
